Pennsylvania College of Health And Wellness Sciences is a private healthcare-focused University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It offers bachelor, master, and doctoral degree programs, along with certificate programs. Its enrollment exceeds 1,700 students.

In 1952, Lancaster General Health Center (LGH) renewed its commitment to education and learning and to the community by establishing Allied Wellness programs. In 1994, the Lancaster General Healthcare Facility Institution of Nursing and Allied Wellness programs integrated to create the Lancaster Institute for Health and Wellness Education and Learning. The Pennsylvania Department of Education granted authorization for independent school licensure.

The Institute petitioned to the Pennsylvania Department of Education And Learning in 2001 and was approved to form the Lancaster General University of Nursing & Health and Wellness Sciences. The parent organization of the University remains Lancaster General Health and Wellness (now Penn Medicine Lancaster General Wellness). The University issues associate degrees, bachelor degrees, master degrees, and diploma and certification programs.

Since 2006, Lancaster General University of Nursing & Health and Wellness Sciences is recognized by the Center States Commission on Higher Education. The College obtained authorization from the Pennsylvania Division of Education in 2009 to use bachelor’s degree education.

In August 2013, Lancaster General University of Nursing & Health and Wellness Sciences altered their name to Pennsylvania University of Wellness Sciences, wishing to clarify the school’s purpose. The college will continue its connection with Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and offer the exact same programs in medical care administration, training, as well as nursing.

In December 2014, the University’s associate degree in nursing program was positioned on provisional authorization after too many grads failed to pass the licensing examination on their very first try. As a result by September 2015, the University’s graduation percentage was up 84.08%.

The College also introduced in November 2015 that it will start providing a three-year Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Program in the Fall of 2016. However, most of the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences will remain as an accredited, four-year university focusing specifically on the area of health care.

Lancaster General Health Center remains as the University’s significant scientific associate and part of the University of Pennsylvania Wellness System.
